Treatment of scleroderma heart by D-penicillamine.
A case of severe diffuse systemic sclerosis with cardiomegaly and cardiac failure is described. Treatment with D-penicillamine caused a pronounced decrease in heart size, together with clinical improvement. The use of penicillamine in scleroderma heart has not previously been reported.

متن کاملMechanism of leukotriene D4 inhibition of Na-alanine cotransport in intestinal epithelial cells.
In a rabbit model of chronic intestinal inflammation, we previously demonstrated inhibition of neutral Na-amino acid cotransport. The mechanism of the inhibition was secondary to a decrease in the affinity for amino acid rather than the number of cotransporters. Since leukotriene (LT)D4 is known to be elevated in enterocytes during chronic intestinal inflammation, we used rat intestinal epithel...
متن کاملCholestatic jaundice caused by D-penicillamine.
D-penicillamine is not generally considered to cause hepatic damage. Cholestatic jaundice developed in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis 4 weeks after penicillamine was added to his regimen, and he died in acute renal failure. The probability that penicillamine caused the cholestasis is discussed.
متن کاملInhibition of neutrophil oxidant secretion by D-penicillamine: scavenging of H2O2 and HOCl.
D-Penicillamine inhibited oxidant secretion from human neutrophils after activation by the chemotactic peptide N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine (fMet-Leu-Phe), as assessed by luminol dependent chemiluminescence. In contrast, this drug had little effect on either intracellular oxidant production or lucigenin dependent chemiluminescence activated by the same agonist. The drug was shown to ...
